This blog will have the Restaurants that takes allergies very seriously in Central Massachusetts.
I appreciate all the chefs, the waiters, waitresses and restaurant owners that take allergies seriously.
I have been to other restaurants where the chefs don’t take my Gluten Sensitivity allergies seriously.
It starts with the server, unfortunately there are some great servers that has the same allergies, but the Chef doesn’t do what is needed to stop cross contamination. For those that don’t take allergies seriously, I cannot eat at your business.
I am not sure by listing you Restaurants here if it will make a difference in your business, but it will help with the those of us that has allergies.
I am learning that wording is everything. Using “I have a severe gluten allergy” gets more weight than saying “I am gluten sensitive”. This last one I get the servers coming out asking if I am celiac or going to be having to go to hospital. bacause the Chef sent them out to ask. This makes me mad.
IF you have a “Sensitivity”, in my mind I can handle that fact that I have an allergy to gluten, but to a few chefs, they think it gives them the right to not take the words sensitive as an allergy and the don’e’t clean their grill correctly. How I know this…when I finish eating, in a few hours or a day of so after eating from that restaurant, I get large white heads which hurts and/or red dots on my hands then for the next month my hands peel. Yes, this is not a typo a month.
I learned that the one restaurant I used to be a regular at, did not take my sensitivity seriously and I was wandering why my palms of my hand always had a yellow tint and peeling. Then I went to another restaurant where the waitress was sent out to ask me if I will end up at the hospital if I get any gluten. No, I told them and after eating I had a breakout and a month of being mad at myself and with peeling hands. I figured out the other restaurant the I was going to regularly was not taking my sensitivity seriously.
For those restaurants I don’t go to them anymore.
One of the restaurants that husband’s family liking to go there for birthdays, so I did had to call and ask if they take gluten allergies seriously and got to talk with the owner. He assured me that they do take these allergies seriously.
If it wasn’t for my husband’s family liking to go there for birthdays, I would not have called and never gone there ever again. I did go and this time I did not have a breakout. But I also used the stronger wording that “I am Severely Allergic to Gluten.”
